Valentino Appoints New Designers, Doesn’t Tell Facchinetti

After the spring 2009 Valentino show in Paris on Friday, company CEO Stefano Sassi told reporters it was designer Alessandra Facchinetti's last collection for the house. Over the weekend the company confirmed Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, who have designed accessories for Valentino for ages, will take over as creative directors. However, Facchinetti wrote in a public e-mail the media heard of her dismissal before she did:
"It was with deep regret that I learnt from the press that I would no longer be working with Valentino…
"This news came as a great surprise since the company's top management has not yet seen fit to inform me. I would like to thank Valentino s.p.a. for showing their appreciation of my 'creative contribution and my sophisticated talent' although I deeply regret the fact that this talent and contribution do not seem to have been adequately acknowledged."

Political Influence

While President Bush's term is nearly over, it seems that the fashion world will be welcoming another Bush into their circle very soon. First-niece Lauren Bush has debuted her first collection under the label Lauren Pierce, which is slated to hit stores this spring. No stranger to fashion, Lauren, a formal model, counts internships at Zac Posen as well as dating Ralph Lauren's son David as all part of her style schooling. With a focus on eco-conscious clothing, Lauren Pierce's feminine frocks will be made out of low-impact fabrics, such as hemp silk, bamboo and organic cotton, as well as crafted by women living in the Democratic Republic of Congo, enlisted through a program called Women for Women International which helps underprivileged women find work.

Will you be buying Lauren's new clothing line come spring? Or is this project not your priority?

The Luxe Collective - MSFW 2008

In the surrounds of the Victorian majesty that is the Melbourne Town Hall, Melbourne Spring Fashion Week 2008 hit its stride yesterday evening when Sally Graham took to the catwalk and opened The Luxe Collective show.
As if proof that things haven't gone quite smoothly for MSFW of late, a naming sponsor notably absent from this year's line-up, it was a night where organisers tried to be somewhat different.

Kaleidescape - MSFW 2008

Proving that steps and seven inch heels don't mix, Melbourne Spring Fashion Week's Kaleidescape parade opened this evening with Sally Graham, the face of fashion week, not so much traversing the stairs but falling down them.
Such is the life of a model on a ridiculous square catwalk that many a person has been miffed about. But proving her professionalism Graham simply picked herself up, and got on with it having joined the esteemed company of many a professional model - yes Jessica Stam, we're looking at you.
