It's no great secret that the humble leather jacket has become a wide-spread wardrobe staple over the last few Winters. As a fashion trend in 2010, however, women's leather clothing is being taken to a whole new level.

Economic downturn changes the look of 2009-2010?

Open any newspaper and you'll quickly read of the doom and gloom of the global credit crunch. Much like the economic downturn of the 80s and 90s, will this current 'crisis' have an effect on future fashion collections? How about fashionisers' fashion tastes?

In their fashion trend report for 2009 fashion trends and 2010 fashion trends,Stahl doesn't claim to have the answer, but they're certainly noticing the shift.

After several seasons of over-abundance, eccentricity and the triumph of artificial over the natural, there is a strong desire to return to a state of equilibrium. Is this a reflection of the current world economic climate? Has this resulted in a wish for fashion to take things steady rather than go overboard? Or is it simply a question of pausing for thought while we mix technical and traditional once more?
Of course, we won't really know what sort of changes we can expect until the Spring 2009 catwalk shows being shortly. Personally I'm tipping some subtle changes. We have to be mindful of the fact that we live in a time of faux luxury, where expensive designer labels are really what most people are investing in (as opposed to quality luxury fabrication). As a result, designers could well use lower quality fabrics as a means of creating less demure, though cheaper, collections. On the flip-side however is the issue of who the credit crunch is actually effecting. Will the likes of Gucci be forced to create cheaper collections for the shrinking wallets of the middle classes, or can they find survive solely on the purchases of the largely unaffected upper classes?

SKECHERS is the perfect brand for India’ – Winner Sport

SKECHERS USA, Inc. announced that it has signed a deal with Winner Sports Pvt. Ltd. to license and distribute SKECHERS footwear and apparel in India.

Winner Sports is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pantaloon Retail India Ltd., part of Future Group. Future Group is an Indian business house that operates the country’s leading retail and distribution chains along with allied businesses in the consumption space. This deal unites SKECHERS with a partner who has the experience and infrastructure to reach a wide cross-section of the billion-plus consumers within this fast-growing nation.

“We’re very excited to grow SKECHERS in India, a mega-market filled with mega potential,” began Michael Greenberg, president of SKECHERS. “Our partnership with Winner Sports will be a key factor in reaching that potential, and we believe India will contribute to international growth and positively impact our business in the next two to three years.”

Over the last three years, SKECHERS has solidified the brand in some of the largest markets around the world by launching a subsidiary in Brazil and establishing a successful joint venture in China. Along with current distribution in Indonesia and the Company’s powerhouse brand status in the United States, the India deal will elevate SKECHERS as a footwear leader in the top five most populated countries and around the world.

“SKECHERS is the perfect brand for India,” said Ravdeep Singh, CEO of Winner Sports. “Indian consumers desire fashionable product at an attractive price and SKECHERS meets both of those demands. We look forward to leveraging our lifestyle and retail experience to make the brand a great success here.”

Winner Sports will launch SKECHERS in India in November with select styles from SKECHERS men’s and women’s lines. SKECHERS Kids will be added to the collection in 2010. Additionally, licensed apparel will be produced within India and is expected to debut in Spring 2010.

Future Group operates India’s leading retail chains like Big Bazaar, Pantaloons, Central and Planet Sports that are present in 73 cities and 65 rural locations throughout the country. Leveraging this robust and deep Group penetration, Winner Sports plans to aggressively roll out SKECHERS product to more than 75 retail stores and key accounts within two years.

Fashion show to promote khadi usage among youth


A fashion show to promote and popularize handloom and khadi products will be organized soon in a district of Tamil Nadu in India. In order to encourage youngsters to wear handloom and khadi dress materials, modern marketing techniques are important besides conducting exhibitions, said Collector Mr. M. Vallalar.

After an inaugural session of a handloom exhibition organized by the Co-optex, the collector was addressing media professionals who informed that various styles of sari draping such as Gujarati, Rajasthani, Bengali, Bihari would be showcased at the fashion show.

Models, wearing high-quality, finely woven cotton and silk saris, churidars and other modern costumes, will sashay on the ramp to promote khadi material. The event will be fully focused on latest designs and dressing trends.

Handloom products need more exposure to reach to the large number of people and holding exhibitions only is not sufficient to promote handloom items among consumers to bring desired results, said Mr. Vallalar.

There are myriad of designs created, in saris and other dress materials such as churidar and men’s wear, by the handloom weavers recently, with high-quality cotton and silk yarn. But these handloom items have not been popularized among the youth class and they are not much aware of the comfort in wearing handloom and cotton materials.

The collector expected that this fashion show will encourage youngsters to choose handloom fabrics for regular use as well as will boost the sales of these products creating a new market base for them.
