Now that Michelle Obama chose to wear a super-chic, on-trend frock from fashion insider fave Thakoon (!) to her husband's nomination at the Democratic National Convention, we have a hopeless fashionista crush on her (almost as die-hard as our Carine Roitfeld fixation).While ladylike and appropriate, the chic and fresh floral print broke ranks with the usual snoozeworthy garb chosen by spouses helping husbands ahead in politics...such as this perfectly bland and boring Kay Unger ensemble (down to the Nancy Reagan red jacket) chosen by Joe Biden's wife Jill. She's lovely, but her style...not so much. Instead, we're thrilled at the possibility of having a new stylish "O" in the White House that would have done Jackie proud.

ECO DESIGN ON PROJECT RUNWAY SEASON 5

We gotta give it to Project Runway for forcing their contestants to be creative with unlikely materials, last season saw them making dresses out of supplies found in the Hershey store, not so sustainable in itself, but it goes to show that you really can create stylish garments with just about anything.
This 5th season of the successful show, premiering tonight on Bravo , looks like it’s going to have some real green cred. First of all, one of the contestants, Oregonian Leanne Marshall, already designs her own eco-conscious line Leanimal . Although not 100% sustainable yet, the designs incorporate such textiles as hemp, bamboo and organic cottons. Marshall’s style is inspired by her favorite designers, Rodarte and Martin Margiela, with sophisticated embellishments and layered asymmetrical construction, but also an awareness of the body and movement inherited from her ballet background.

EDWIN OUDSHOORN LAUNCHES ECO ACCESSORIES COLLECTION

What happens when you introduce a Dutch fashion designer to the amazing materials and talented people of Brazil? What happens if these people create fashion items that combine the strength of two countries and cultures? Horizons expand, mutual inspiration boosts creativity and a learning experience enriches lives.
Last Friday the Old Church in the Amsterdam red light district saw the launch of Edwin Oudshoorn’s first eco accessories collection. Each piece was designed by Edwin Oudshoorn and created in cooperation with designers and small producers in Rio de Janeiro.

MAGIC IN VEGAS

Magic in Vegas might more immediately conjure up thoughts of Siegfried and Roy than eco fashion, but it is indeed the latter that we will talk about today. We’ve already told you about tradeshows going green from New York to Berlin, the latest convert is Las Vegas’ giant fashion tradeshow Magic.
Running from August 25th to 27th, Ecollection at Magic will be a juried selection of approximately 70 environmentally and socially conscious exhibitors as well as educational programs and activities with industry leaders. For this first foray into sustainable style, Ecollection has partnered with the Organic Exchange who will provide information on the benefits of increasing the production and use of organic fibers. Daily activities will be reported on eco blogs Inhabitat and ECOfabulous.
The organizers are even creating a special lounge for eco-buyers with bamboo furniture by Lounge 22, an art installation by eco jewelry brand Smart Glass.
As far as the style of the attending brands, the focus seems to be on the more casual side of the eco fashion sphere, several brands feature organic graphic t-shirts and great basics. One stand out so far is Lizzie Parker, who stretches the boundaries of casual design to create some truly unique and multi-functional pieces.

Even when it comes to accessories such as watches, women are attracted to more masculine styles. Leonid Khankin, managing and creative director at watch maker Ernst Benz, says women are purchasing large men's watches for themselves. "Men's watches reflect a bold style and exude confidence," he says. "It's like wearing an oversized handbag. It's a reflection of her style."

Lanvin
While women are donning men's caps, in Lavin's Spring 2009 collection, men were topped with women's floppy hats, some decorated with feathers or sequins. They also sported skintight pants, shoulder bags and denim short-shorts. One of the first labels to jump on the feminized menswear bandwagon last year, the Lanvin line was less over-the-top for spring, but still softer than other collections.

Shockingly narrow was the trend for Dior Homme's Spring 2009 Men's Show. From jeans and jackets to dress pants, most of the items had a feminine cling. Models strutted down the runway in bomber jackets in fuchsia and other bright neon colors, as well as gold-sequined metallic pants.

Teen rises above fashion world's ugly side

Gerren Taylor was still playing with Barbie dolls when she walked the runway for the first time at Los Angeles Fashion Week in 2003. Just 12 at the time, she was the youngest person ever to be represented by the runway division of L.A. Models. Although most agencies require girls to be 14, it's not unheard of for 12-year-olds to get work. Actress Milla Jovovich made the cover of the Italian fashion magazine Lei at 12, and Brooke Shields, Gisele Bundchen and Kate Moss were stars before they turned 16.

With her long legs and confident walk, Taylor looked as though she would follow in their footsteps. Then, during Richard Tyler's show, the last one of the week that April, she stepped onto the runway in a wedding gown and stumbled hard. She tripped once, then again on the train that was in front of her, because the dress was accidentally put on backward. When her eyes welled up with tears, even the most hardened fashionistas wanted to give her a hug.

MISS Universe Australia Laura Dundovic has agreed to auction herself off for a date with the highest bidder today all in the name of charity.

With bidding kicking off at $1 on website esap.com.au from noon, the man with the deepest pockets will have the Universe at his feet - or at their table at least - when they win a dinner date with Dundovic at an exclusive Sydney restaurant.

It's a bit exciting to be auctioned off as a date but it's been three years since I last went on one, so I have high expectations and am expecting to get swept off my feet," Dundovic said.

The auction will run for 10 days and all proceeds will be donated to The Children's Hospital at Westmead

In a time when kids of rock stars are the new breed of celebrity overseas, Lazenby has joined the likes of Ronnie Wood's son Jesse and Keith Richards's daughters Theodora and Alexandra in making an edgy stamp on the international fashion world.

Dubbed the "rockocracy" by the UK press, the new-generation groovers were celebrated in a recent multi-million-pound campaign by designer label Burberry.

After attracting considerable interest from British fashion titles and agencies, lanky fashion plate Lazenby has decided to capitalise on the interest by relocating to London.

The move is so far paying off - having signed with London agency Independent Models, Lazenby has already shot his first fashion spread for a British magazine.
The 18-year-old has also been booked to strut his stovepipes in several catwalk shows during London Fashion Week in September.

Lazenby, who until recently was living with his mother Beau in Melbourne's Collingwood, has inherited his father's lithe frame and taste for the spotlight.

I've never wanted to live in his shadow but if I can make money, why not?" he said.
